Teach in China Programme

Want to teach English in China but don't know where to start, or can't afford a TESOL/TEFL course?

ELC's FREE Teach in China Programme is here to help.

What is it?

The Teach in China Programme is a completely free service and consists of two key strands:

  1. An intensive 40 hour distance-learning TESOL Certificate Course; giving participants the skills, confidence, and entry level qualifications necessary for quality TESOL employment in China.

  2. An Employment Service providing expert support to help participants choose the most appropriate position in China for them as an individual. All opportunities are sponsored and controlled by SFEA (the Chinese State Foreign Experts Administration), and are in both the State and Private sectors. Benefits are excellent and include airfare reimbursement. All positions are a minimum one year‘s contract and vacancies are available throughout the year, but particularly in the Autumn.

Please click on the link for more detail about the Teach in China TESOL Certificate Course, or check out the Frequently Asked Questions page for answers to some common questions about the Programme and living/working in China. You might also want to take a look at the blog post one of our former students wrote for us about their time teaching in China: Tom Hunter's Blog.

How to Apply?

Basic Requirements:

  • English as a first language or equivalent

  • Graduate / Final year student

  • Good communication skills

  • Enthusiasm about living and working in China

Places are not limited by numbers, but we do ask that you are serious about actually going to teach in China before applying, as otherwise it is simply a waste of resources that could be better deployed helping others. Enthusiasm and commitment are more important than previous teaching experience, and we would like to encourage as many people as possible from all disciplines to apply.

To apply for a place on the Teach in China Programme, please send your CV and a Cover Letter (approx 500 words) explaining why you would like to teach in China and why you think you should be granted a place on the Programme to teachchina@englishlanguagecentre.org

Who are ELC?  How is this free?

ELC is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) – a Social Enterprise where ALL profits are re-invested back into helping more people. Between this and the generosity of some of our partners we are in a position to offer the Teach in China Programme as a free service.

Our priority as a Social Enterprise is to provide innovative training and employment opportunities, with a particular focus on tackling youth and graduate unemployment.

ELC was started by the senior team of one of the longest established specialist English language providers in the UK. After more than 20 years providing English language training and consultancy across the world, we decided it was time to use our knowledge and expertise to give something significant back, and English Language Centre CIC is the result.

As regards TESOL, our senior team have successfully delivered TESOL training programmes and employment opportunities to over 6000 people worldwide.
